Mortimer, NC

Pulled an all dayer in Mortimer NC. lost three nice pigs, one almost in hand! I did however, land two piglets and a few 10-12 brook trout. Weather was excellent starting out at 33 and ending up at 70. The big nasty #6 (Aka slumpbuster) in Olive was the show stopper once again, this fly is freaking HOT! I seen so many attempted strikes by some huge fish. They appeared to come right to it and roll away. Almost missed the shot on the second piglet..lol

Water Fall on Wild Water

Another perfect day in Gods country.

To Wild or not to Wild I

I couldn't decide on fishing the Wild waters or the Hatchery Supported waters, so I decided to do both. Hit thwe blue lines early in the morning and was treated to some fine juvenile bows. Along the way I discovered a couple of beautiful water falls. Later that day, I caught a nice Piglet of a Brook. Caught about 12 or so today. A light rain was present during mid day however, it did not stop a thing except for those who don't like to get wet while fishing!..Had the entire river to myself, I LOVE THE COLD WEATHER! Earlier was the 2wt 6ft superfine with my Orvis CFO I and later I threw the big nasty with a 5wt 9ft St.Croix and a Orvis BLA III, one extreme to another, what a day!

The Brookie Missile

I was looking around my videos and pictures and found this. My son released this Brookie and it went right for the camera. Funny is in the eye of the beholder I guess..lol

That secret place

Not so much a secret however, a place that you prefer to go it alone? I have a couple and thought I would post some pics I have taken along the way. This is a quiet little wild trout stream and a small spring creek. Both are rather private and rarely do you see anyone. Its a beautiful place where time slips by as the wild Bows, Browns and Brookies chase your haires ear and prices. So, you have a spot that re-charges your batteries? I hope so!

Fishing with my son today I

Took my son to the water today. I am always pleased to see him apply what he learned on the previous trip. We spent the day looking back on good times and learning new waters. I can already see he is like his old man, he threw streamers all day, stripping one after another across the water. I watched him work a large rainbow into a tizzy. She never took the bugger however, to see his patience level while working her made me proud. I could see a change in his casting this time and his intent on reading the water. He methodically worked his bugger in such a way that it would appear to one, he was more happy manipulating her actions than actually wanting to reel her in.

Well there it was, the pivotal moment you no longer have that young boy asking why aren't the fish biting dad to that young man applying his learned skills, reading the water, carefully placing his fly with a graceful cast where he wanted it and working the fish on his terms. It was a moment that I can honestly say, my son is a fly fisherman.

Not many pictures today and we seemed to have lost more than we brought to hand however, what a great day, temps were excellent, water was clear and our pork and beans feast very satisfying..lol

My World

Welcome to my world. It's a slice of heaven. Today was great, weather, water everything couldn't have been any better. Total of 40 fish caught today with one big fatty Brook! I feel to be the largest Brook I have ever caught. The afternoon held a beautiful hatch and risers were all over. The hopper dropper and Prince Nymph were the meal of the day. Days like this make you start planning for the next trip even before you get home. An incredible day! The "last" two photo's are from a previous trip. Blogger would not let me un-select a photo option for some reason. Look at those colors on that first little Brook!

Fatty in recovery

She appears to have recovered well. I spotted her later up stream feeding, one of the biggest Brook I have ever caught.

Entering the Gorge area

Entering the Gorge at Wilson's Creek. This area is the former Cherokee hunting ground. It's breath taking to see and explore.

Wilson Creek with Jason

We both had a mutual work detail close to Wilsons Creek today so when we got finished about 2:30 or so, we split to the river. Only about two hours of daylight left and we caught 12-14 fish between us both. At one place he appeared to catch one after the other every cast. He is definatly an acomplished fly fisherman and when you take a moment to watch him, you can learn a thing or two. Once it got dark, we scooted out of there. Had to take him by my favorite store in the big city of Mortimer, the pic is from an earlier time however, you get the picture....
